About Manhattan Resto

Manhattan Resto is an independent digital magazine covering Dining, Chefs, Culture, Restaurant and Travel. Manhattan eats on a schedule nobody agreed to: the 5:45 table because 8:00 vanished in nine seconds, the bar seat taken standing up, the counter on Ludlow that fits eleven people and a dishwasher. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.

How We Work

Guides and explainers are the format, organized by occasion and budget instead of by stars. A guide tells you the cost of a meal before tip, the hour a reservation drops, whether the 5:30 walk-in line works, and which subway stop leaves the shortest walk in January. Tables are booked under ordinary names and paid for at the end. No listing is sold.

What We Cover

Restaurants holds the recommendations themselves, sorted by neighborhood and cuisine. Dining covers the practice of eating out here: when reservations release, which rooms hold seats for walk-ins, tipping and service charges, corkage, wine markups, dietary requests and what a party of six really runs. Chefs profiles the people at the pass — line cooks who took over a kitchen, chefs leaving established rooms for forty seats of their own, the mentors whose training turns up across a dozen menus — covering technique, sourcing and working conditions alongside the food. Culture follows food as city life, from immigrant kitchens and greenmarkets to delivery platforms and the dining rooms that outlive their blocks. Restaurant News reports openings, closings, chef departures and licensing actions with addresses and dates, and Business News explains why rooms close in good locations and open in unlikely ones: rent, wages, commissions, build-out costs.

A room that closed last month does not sit quietly in a guide for another season.
